PRE PURCHASE BUYERS AGENT AND SURVEYS
Have you found the vessel of your dreams? Beware of hidden defects that could cost you a fortune in maintenance in years to come. Salus will complete a full pre purchase survey that can also be used for insurance surveys when required. We will inspect the hull, deck and superstructure by percussion, thermal imagery, moisture metre, ultrasonic and visually (see Non Destructive Testing below). We will inspect the keel, rudder, mast, stanchions, deck equipment, shafting propellers and all machinery, including oil samples, pressure testing and engine analysis. We check every accessible nut, bolt, screw, pipe, and structure for corrosion and signs of stress or damage. We check wiring, fridges, freezers, electrical and navigation equipment. We will test and itemise all systems onboard and if you or your captain are not familiar with the operating systems we can develop an operations manual and conduct training for the vessel. Contact us for an example of our pre-purchase surveys.
INSURANCE RENEWAL AND RISK EVALUATION SURVEY
Most insurance companies require a survey prior to the commencement of the insurance agreement, and a insurance renewal or risk evaluation survey every 2 or 5 years. The insurance renewal or Risk Evaluation survey is a bit like a health checkup. Its purpose is to let the insurance company know that you are looking after your boat, and it also gives owners a good indication of what maintenance they should focus on.
INSURANCE CLAIM AND WARRANTY SURVEY
SALUS can assess insurance claims as required by insurance companies.
VALUATION SURVEY
SALUS can assist in providing valuations and consultation for court settlements and disputes.
AMSA SURVEY
AMSA DCV Accredited surveyors for Initial survey, Load line, Renewal, Periodical, Shaft Survey, and Electrical < 24V
NON DESTRUCTIVE TESTING
Salus Utilises the latest technology in ultrasonic testing, penetrative dye, Tramex moisture meter and thermal imaging TIR technology we can check the integrity, thickness and moisture content of Timber, GRP, Carbon, Composite, Aluminium, Steel and HDPE.
NDT identifies faults such as water damage, osmosis, corrosion, cracking, delaminated fiberglass, moisture, rotting core structure, without the need to hammer on the hull, drill holes, remove fixtures, fittings, linings or risking damage to the vessel. NDT can even identify dampness and mold inside the vessel that can not be seen by the naked eye.
By identifying hidden problems using NDT technology combined with expert knowledge we save boat owners thousands of dollars, hours of their time by ensuring structural integrity and watertightness of all vessels we survey ensuring your health and safety
LIFTING EQUIPMENT
Lifting equipment inspections involve assessment of cranes, strops, slings, shackles, chain hoists, winches to ensure they are not a hazard to anybody in the workplace ashore or onboard. Lifting equipment is inspected in accordance with AS2440.1-2020 by a competent inspector.

COST
The cost of a survey is proportional to time spent surveying the vessel. The type of vessel, value, age, and intended purpose of the vessel and equipment onboard will determine how thorough, and thus how much time is required to survey the vessel. For example a brand new FRP production boat such as a Beneteau will be a simpler survey to a 1980’s Trawler. The following figures give an indication of expected costs of a survey of a vessel in good condition;
- Insurance risk and renewal surveys is $20 per foot.
