Richard Hewson to race in Mini 650 Circuit

Richard Hewson is excited to announce that he will be teaming up with Katabatic Sailing to compete in the Mini Valencia and Mini Barcelona races in September and October this year as skipper o the newest series Mini 650 in production the RG650

The both races are in the Mediterranean and are 300nm long. The Mini Valencia Air 2012 will start from Marina Real Juan Carlos rounding a buoy in Palma Bay in Mallorca, passing between Ibiza and Formentera and returning to Valencia. The Mini Barcelona will start in Barcelona and round Menorca before returning to Barcelona. Both of these races are qualifiers for the 2012 Mini Transat and are immensely competitive.

I cant wait for these races to begin, it will be fantastic to be sailing solo again. Its going to be brilliant fun and and an excellent challenge. Richard Hewson is a Tasmania-based ships captain, marine surveyor, and experienced sailor with a lifelong connection to the sea. With experience in project management and vessel commissioning, he has operated and raced a wide range of vessels—from dinghies and Maxi yachts to tankers, icebreakers and research vessels. Richard holds a Master Class 1 (unrestricted), RYA Yachtmaster Ocean, Engineering (1200kw) and commercial diving certifications, and is an AMSA-accredited marine surveyor. He is also affiliated with the Australasian Institutes of Marine Surveyors and is passionate about all things that float.
